Darrell L. Shipley passed away on November 11, 2016. He was 64. Sir was my nickname for him. He was a leader, he was caring and intelligent, he was an outstanding man. Mr. Shipley was one of the few members that come along and really want to help by donating their time to a cause to help make that cause even greater than it already is. That is a trait of a man. Mr. Shipley served as secretary of the club for many years and during those years he gave the club a foundation that is still in place today. He implemented much needed changes in our bylaws, he was our shoot director and avid participate in any shoot we held. He was a the definition of an archer. His master shoot schedule was something that every tournament archer in our area appreciated, it showed his passionate investment in the sport he loved. He didn’t do it for money, he didn’t do it for personal glory, he did it to help other archers.
Mr. Shipley had a lasting impression on me and for many other archers in our area. His devotion and his dedication to the sport of archery is something we all can learn from. I will always remember Sir for what he instilled in me both with a bow in my hand and without. I hope others will too.
You will be greatly missed Sir, but never forgotten. We all pray for your wife and family to give them strength in this time of sorrow.
Patricia Shipley has requested any donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
